Why production code takes longer

Conforming the experiment you've written to the existing codebase so as not to make the existing codebase an unmaintainable mess.

This includes:

Following the existing architecture
Writing tests in a consistent way
Formatting and linting code in the same way
Dealing with any constraints in the environment
Making sure your change works with your continuous delivery pipeline
You generally don't have to work with any (or as many) people

These things all have to be done if you want to continue being able to deliver incremental improvements, they just take for most problems than not being concerned about them.
